Erin Perry Appointed Duval County Court Judge
On January 7, 2019, Gov. Rick Scott appointed Erin Perry to be Duval County’s new judge.
Perry, 37, was an assistant state attorney in the Fourth Judicial Circuit. She replaces former Duval County Court Judge Lester Bass, who was appointed by Scott to fill a vacancy on the Fourth Circuit bench created by the resignation of retired Judge Robert Foster.
A career prosecutor, Perry’s first assignment was in county court, then she was transferred to circuit court. Her current assignment is division chief and she prosecutes homicides and other major crimes.
She was one of six candidates for the seat submitted to Scott by the Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.
Perry said in her interview before the commission that while her legal experience is limited to criminal prosecution, she has in the past year completed 16 hours of civil practice certification study.
Commission Chair Patrick Kilbane commented on Perry’s background check conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
He described it as “spotless, not even a moving violation.”
Perry received her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Florida. She was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2007.
